A hand grenade was thrown by an armed individual from the local committees’ militias of the Syrian regime forces near a group of children plating football in al Jabibiyat neighborhood in Jabla city in the suburbs of Latakia governorate on September 1, 2022. The grenade killed a child, Haidar Muhsen Melhem, and wounded eight other civilians, including children, and they were transported to a hospital in the city for treatment.
Haidar is 14 years old from Basna village in Latakia governorate, and lives in al Jabibiyat neighborhood.
SNHR notes that the Syrian regime forces have violated the international human rights law through this killing and the perpetrators must be held accountable.
