Hussein al Dallo from Abo Ouja village in eastern Hama governorate, died in a Turkish hospital on August 25, 2022, due to injuries sustained the day before from the explosion of remnants of a previous shelling from an unknown source, while he was working gathering metal scrap to be melted down at a workshop near Ma’aret Misreen town in northern Idlib governorate.

The region is under the joint control of Hay’at Tahrir al Sham and armed opposition factions. SNHR notes that weapons remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians, and we have issued a large number of reports on cluster munitions and other weapons remnants, calling for special equipment to help the local residents remove all kinds of explosive devices.

SNHR has regularly documented the Syrian regime’s use of personal landmines that will continue to constitute a severe threat to the population of these areas in years to come, especially to children. We’ve documented hundreds of deaths and injuries as a result of cluster munition explosions and the international community must intervene to protect civilians in Syria from the continuing killing.
