Ramzi Ramzi Kilo, a 16-year-old boy, from Arnada village of Afrin city in northern Aleppo governorate, was assaulted and arrested by Syrian National Army police personnel on August 14, 2022* in a raid on his family’s home in Sourka village of Afrin city. He was taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that the boy’s phone was confiscated, and he hasn’t been allowed to contact any members of his family since his arrest. We fear he may be subjected to torture and go on to be forcibly disappeared, as has happened with 85% of detainees.
SNHR calls for financial and psychological restitution for all victims and their families, as well as for an end to all arbitrary detention and for the fate of thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by the Syrian National Army to be revealed. We note that these arrests are carried out with the objective of spreading fear and terror in the community and blackmailing the detainees’ families. We have additional, well-founded fears for the detainees’ wellbeing due to the spread of COVID-19.
* According to information from activists, we published a news report previously that the child Ramzi was arrested by Syrian National Army forces on August 24, 2022. After further investigation and verification, we learned that the child was arrested on August 14, 2022, and the news report was updated accordingly.
