A seven-year-old girl, Dmou Ghassan al Rouji, displaced from al Sermaniya village in western Hama governorate, was killed and her brother was wounded on Jul 30, 2022 due to the explosion of a cluster bomb remnants left by previous shelling by the Syrian-Russian alliance on al Ghassaniya village in Idlib governorate western suburbs. The region is under the joint control of the Syrian National Army and Hay’at Tahrir al Sham.

SNHR notes that weapons remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians, and has issued a large number of reports on cluster munitions and other weapons remnants, calling for special equipment to help the local residents remove all kinds of explosive devices.

SNHR has regularly documented the Syrian regime’s use of personal landmines that will continue to constitute a severe threat to the population of these areas in years to come, especially to children. We’ve documented hundreds of deaths and injuries as a result of cluster munition explosions and the international community must intervene to protect civilians in Syria from the continuing killing.
