A civilian from Qanouta village of Talkalakh city in the western suburbs of Homs governorate, Adnan Ahmad Ramadan, died on Jul 18, 2022 due to wounds sustained from the explosion of munition remnants left by previous shelling near the village on July 17, 2022, which is on the Syrian-Lebanese borders. The village is controlled by the Syrian regime forces.
SNHR notes that weapons remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians, and has issued a large number of reports on cluster munitions and other weapons remnants, calling for special equipment to help the local residents remove all kinds of explosive devices.
SNHR has regularly documented the Syrian regime’s use of personal landmines that will continue to constitute a severe threat to the population of these areas in years to come, especially to children. We’ve documented hundreds of deaths and injuries as a result of cluster munition explosions and the international community must intervene to protect civilians in Syria from the continuing killing.
