Members of the Syrian National Army’s al Hamza Brigade fired a 23-caliber machine gun at random from a checkpoint where they were stationed in Mirkan village of Afrin city north of Aleppo governorate on March 27, 2022. Some of the indiscriminate gunfire, which took place during school hours, hit the Mirkan Elementary School in the village, wounding eight children, all students.
SNHR condemns these actions, holds the Syrian National Army responsible, and calls for it to launch an investigation into the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable.
