A nine-year-old child, Khaled Shadi al Saad from Adwan village west of Idlib governorate, was killed and another child wound as a result of the explosion of munition remnants left by previous bombardment by the Syrian-Russian Alliance on farmland in Adwan village on February 22, 2022.
SNHR notes that weapons remnants still pose a serious threat to civilians, and we have issued many reports on cluster munitions and weapons remnants, and called repeatedly for providing specialized equipment to help the local population remove various types of explosive ordnance. We have also documented the Syrian regime’s use of anti-personnel mines; which will continue to constitute a real and lethal threat to people, particularly children, for several years to come. We have documented hundreds of injuries resulting from cluster munitions’ explosions, and emphasize that the international community must intervene to protect civilians in Syria against the killings.
