The Syrian Network for Human Rights documented the killing...

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, unidentified gunmen abducted 68-year-old urologist Dr. Mohammad Yassin al-Wa’ri from his store, where he sells solar energy equipment, in his home neighborhood of Wadi al-Thahab in Homs city.

According to information obtained by the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) from reliable local sources, an armed group composed of four members, traveling in a white Hyundai Santa Fe vehicle, abducted Dr. Mohammad from his shop located at the corner of Street No. 7 and took him to an undisclosed location. The identity of the group responsible for the abduction and the reasons behind the incident remain unknown. His family confirmed that they have lost contact with him since the incident, raising growing concerns about his fate.

It is worth noting that the area where the abduction took place is under the control of the transitional government forces. SNHR is continuing to gather eyewitness testimonies to verify and fully document the circumstances of the incident.

SNHR must stress that such incidents reflect the deteriorating security situation in the region, where many civilians continue to be subjected to enforced disappearance by unknown armed groups amid a lack of effective protection and accountability mechanisms.

SNHR calls on the authorities responsible for managing security in the area to take immediate measures to reveal the fate of the abducted doctor and ensure his safe return to his family. SNHR also calls for a transparent and independent investigation into the incident, with the results made public, in order to reduce incidents of abduction and enforced disappearance, which constitute violations of human rights and international law.
