On April 22, 2025, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested three men; identified as Mohammad Ali al-Abdullah, Hussein al-Ali al-Abdullah, and Ibrhaim Mohammad Amin al-Rahmawi all from al-Qebba village to the south of Ein al-Arab ‘Kubani’ city in eastern rural Aleppo governorate. SDF personnel raided the three men’s houses and arrested them, before taking them to an undisclosed location. One of the three men, Ibrahim al-Rahmawi, was shot in the foot by SDF in the course of his arrest.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the three men’s phones were seized and they have not been allowed to contact their families. We are concerned that he may be subjected to torture in detention and may go on to become another enforced disappearance case, with 85% of all those detained in Syria falling into this category.
We call for the provision of both material and moral reparations for the victims of such detentions and for their families, and call on all parties to put an end to all arbitrary detentions whose only purpose is to spread mass fear and extort people.
We also call on the SDF to reveal the fate of thousands of people forcibly disappeared at its hands.
