Two men, identified as Hamad al-Hamran and Mohammad al-Dwihi from Ma’dan town in eastern rural Raqqa governorate, were killed on February 21, 2025, by the explosion of a landmine of unidentified source while looking for desert truffles in the badiya ‘desert area’ of Jabal al-Beshri in western rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR calls on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities in protecting civilians in their areas and identify the locations of landmines and remove them. We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
