On February 11, 2025, the dead bodies of a man and his wife, identified respectively as engineer Shawkat Ahmad Ahmad and Najah Ahmad Suleiman both from Beit Na’sa village in rural Tartus governorate, were found bearing gunshot wounds by local residents in Basira al-Jard village (administratively a part of Safita district) in rural Tartus governorate. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify who is responsible for Shawkat’s and Najah’s deaths as of this writing. The controlling forces must uphold their responsibilities in identifying their killers.
