On January 25, 2025, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) used a rocket launcher to fire a rocket that struck a house in Qal’at Najm village to the east of Manbij city in eastern rural Aleppo governorate. The attack killed a local boy, identified as 14-year-old Ibrahim Mohammad Abdullah al-Hussein, and injured his 16-year-old sister Amina. The area targeted is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this attack, SDF has unequivocally violated UN Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2254, which prohibit indiscriminate attacks.
The SDF has also violated the rules of international humanitarian law on distinguishing between civilians and fighters, which only aims to spread panic among civilians.
