Three civilians, including two Civil Defense members, were injured on January 20, 2025, by a landmine of unidentified source that exploded under a Civil Defense bulldozer at the entrance of Ein al-Ghazal village in Kansaba subdistrict in rural Latakia governorate as they were working to open roads and remove earth berms. The explosion also heavily damaged the bulldozer and rendered it out of commission. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
SNHR calls on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities in protecting civilians in their areas and identify the locations of landmines and remove them. We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
