A girl, identified as six-year-old Ranim al-Haytham from Deir Hafer town in eastern rural Aleppo governorate, was shot and killed on January 4, 2025, by a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) sniper while heading back to her home with her father in Deir Hafer town. The area is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that SDF has violated international human rights law through this act of killing. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
