Two men, identified as Moutaz Mustafa Fatou and Ahmad Nadim Nbayyou from Latakia governorate, were killed on January 2, 2025, by the explosion of a landmine of unidentified source that exploded under their car on the road connecting the two villages of Shanbar and Ein al-Ishra in Jabal al-Turkman district in eastern rural Latakia governorate. The area is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries from landmine explosions. Landmines pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives for years to come in these areas, particularly children.
