On December 11, 2024, unidentified individuals stormed Hagia Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in al-Sqibiliya city in northwestern rural Hama governorate. The assistants broke down the Christ statue in the church and left it on the ground. The city is under the control of the current transitional authorities in Syria.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We condemn this attack on the church, and we call on the controlling forces to launch an investigation into this incident to hold the perpetrators accountable.
