On December 2, 2024, a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) artillery detachment fired a mortar shell at Deir Hafer town in eastern rural Aleppo governorate, killing two men, identified as Ibrahim Ahmad al-Breij and Ibrahim Mahmoud al-Breij. The area targeted is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this attack, SDF has unequivocally violated UN Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2254, which prohibit indiscriminate attacks.
The SDF has also violated the rules of international humanitarian law on distinguishing between civilians and members, which only aims to spread panic among civilians.
