On November 23, 2024, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fired a mortar shell at al-Jarekh village to the west of Tal Abyad city in northern Raqqa governorate, killing one girl, identified as 12-year-old Nada Rashid Mahmoud. The area targeted is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this attack, the SDF has unequivocally violated UN Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2254, which prohibit indiscriminate attacks.
The SDF has also violated the rules of international humanitarian law on distinguishing between civilians and members, which only aims to spread panic among civilians.
