A man, identified as 18-year-old Ayoub Bassam Barakat from al-Bitar village in the rural areas of al-Qerdaha city in rural Latakia governorate, was killed on November 1, 2024, by the explosion of an explosive war remnant of unidentified source, while four others were injured in the explosion. The explosion happened while they were trying to extinguish a fire in Qefala Farm in eastern al-Bitar village. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that war remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on cluster munitions and other war remnants, calling for securing equipment to help local residents to safely dispose of the various explosive remnants.
