On October 10, 2024, a man, identified as Mahmoud Yousef Eid Abu al-Hawwash from al-Ghariya al-Sharqiya town in eastern rural Daraa governorate, was shot and killed and two others, identified as Qasim al-Zu’bi and Hatem al-Halabi, were shot and injured by unidentified gunmen in the middle of Mahmoud’s hometown. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the three victims are civilians. However, there have been claims of them working in the drug trade.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the investigation’s findings known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
