A man, identified as Ammar al-Ahmad al-Omar from al-Dwair town in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was shot dead on September 20, 2024, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel who were stationed in Ghranij town on the opposite side of the Euphrates River to al-Dwair town. Ammar was shot as he was swimming in the Euphrates River on the side of al-Dwair town. The area where he was shot is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the SDF has, through this act of killing, again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
