A man, identified as Bahaa Syasna from Daraa al-Balad district in Daraa city who worked as a motorbike repairman, died on September 17, 2024, of wounds sustained the day before, September 16, when he was shot by personnel from the Syrian regime’s Air Force Intelligence Directorate while driving a motorbike on the road connecting Rakham village and al-Hrak city in eastern rural Daraa governorate. He was then taken to the Air Force Intelligence branch in al-Ghariya al-Gharbiya town in eastern Daraa governorate, before the regime returned his dead body to his family at Daraa National Hospital in Daraa city. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Bahaa had been a member of armed opposition factions in Daraa before regime forces took control of the city in July 2018, at which time he agreed to settle his security situation with the Syrian regime, and returned to being a civilian.
It should be also noted that Syrian regime forces have, through this act of killing, again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
