A man, identified as Mohammad Yahya Dahis, from Nawa city in western rural Daraa governorate, was shot and killed on August 16, 2024, amid clashes between unidentified armed individuals and Syrian regime forces in the vicinity of the automated bakery in Nawa city. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Mohamad Dahis was a member of armed opposition factions in Daraa before regime forces took control of the city in July 2018, at which time he agreed to settle his security situation with the Syrian regime. He has completely retired from military life ever since living a civilian life until his death.*
SNHR has not yet been able to identify the party responsible for Mohammad’s death as of this writing. We condemn what happened. The controlling forces must take responsibility for holding the killers accountable.
* Based on the information we received from activists, we reported earlier that the victim Mohammad Dahis has never had any ties with any military formation. Upon further investigation, however, we can confirm that Mohammad had been a member of armed opposition factions in the before regime forces took control of the city.
