On August 2, 2024, a woman, identified as 42-year-old Arifa Mahmoud Kattouli, and her son, identified as three-year-old Thaer Aqra, were shot and injured by a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) sniper stationed in Jabal al-Shoyoukh subdistrict in eastern Aleppo governorate, while the two were on the side opposite to the sniper of the Euphrates River at the bridge connecting al-Shoyoukh village and Jarablos city in eastern Aleppo governorate. The area is under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the SDF violated international human rights law through targeting civilians. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
