A man, identified as Mohammad Kheir Tou’ma from Zakya town in western Rural Damascus governorate, was shot dead on July 30, 2024, by personnel from the Syrian regime’s Fourth Division from a passing motorbike in front of his house in his hometown. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Mohammad had been a member of armed opposition factions in Zakya before regime forces took control of the town, at which time he agreed to settle his security situation with the Syrian regime in 2017. He has completely retired from military life ever since living a civilian life until his death.
It should be also noted that Syrian regime forces have violated international human rights law once again through this act of killing. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
