A man, identified as Muhi al-Din Abu Zaid from al-Rheiba city in al-Qalamoun subdistrict in northeastern Rural Damascus governorate, was shot and killed on July 27, 2024, by Syrian regime forces as he was trying to run away from a checkpoint in his home city. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Muhi al-Din is a civilian who had never been involved with any military formation. It should be also noted that Syrian regime forces have, through this act of killing, again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
