On July 15, 2024, a boy, identified as 11-year-old Mohammad Abdul Rahman, from al-Boukamal city in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was killed, while another identified as nine-year-old Khaled al-Awwad also from al-Boukamal, was injured by the explosion of a war remnant of unidentified source in al-Hari village in the rural areas of al-Boukamal city. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that war remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on cluster munitions and other war remnants, calling for securing equipment to help local residents to safely dispose of the various explosive remnants.
