A man, identified as Alaa Eissa Mohammad al-Mizar, was killed on June 13, 2024, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) patrolmen. Alaa was shot directly during a raid on his house in his al-Latwa neighborhood of his hometown of Theyban in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. Alaa was then taken to al-Omar Oil Field in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate, before the SDF returned his dead body to his family with signs indicating that he had been operated on. The area is under the control of the SDF.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this killing, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
