Two girls, identified as Almaz Fouri Koulin and Selfana Assad Rashid from Afrin city, born in 2011 and 2010 respectively, were abducted for military conscription on June 1, 2024, by the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) al-Shabiba al-Thawriya, (Revolutionary Youth) faction, also known as the ‘Joanne Schurchkar’ in Um Housh village, administratively a part of al-Shahba area in northern Aleppo city, where they have been living as internally displaced persons (IDPs). They were then taken to an SDF recruitment camp.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the two girls’ families have not been notified of what has happened to them, and they are forbidden to contact them or receive any visits from them. We are concerned that they will be forced to participate in direct and indirect military action.
It should be noted that approximately 341 children are currently conscripted in SDF military training camps.
