On June 5, 2024, A Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) artillery detachment stationed in al-Zer village in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate fired multiple shells, with shots fired from machine guns, at Buqrus Water Station on the side opposing the forces of the Euphrates River in Buqrus Fouqani village in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The attack caused moderate damage to filters, tanks, and main transformer, putting the station out of commission as it goes under maintenance. No casualties were recorded.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the attack on the water station came amid clashes between the SDF troops stationed in the SDF-held al-Zer village and fighters from Arab tribes stationed in the regime-held Buqrus Fouqani village.

SNHR condemns the attack on the station, and holds the SDF responsible for what happened. We call on the SDF to launch an investigation and hold those responsible accountable.
