A man, identified as 27-year-old Ayman Nehad Abdul Kafi from al-Bayraktar village to the west of Manbij city in eastern rural Aleppo governorate was shot dead on May 21, 2024, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel. Ayman was shot after irregularly crossing into the SDF-held al-Msheirfa village to the south of Manbij city from regime-controlled areas. His dead body has not yet been returned to his family. The area is under the control of the SDF.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Ayman was on his way back from Lebanon to his home village. However, he was denied entry via the official crossing between SDF-controlled areas and regime-controlled areas in Abu Kahf subdistrict in southern Manbij city, which drove him to go through irregular routes, which led to his death.
SNHR notes that, through this killing, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
