A man, identified as Ziad Kamal al-Hussein al-Jamil from Darnaj village in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate was shot dead on May 14, 2024, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel. Ziad was shot as he was trying to smuggle mazut from the areas under the control of the SDF to Syrian regime territories via the Euphrates River near Swaidan Jazira village in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. Local residents found his dead body three days later, on May 17, 2024, by the Euphrates River. The area is under the control of the SDF.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this killing, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
