On May 13, 2024, three children were injured by the explosion of a war remnant of as yet unidentified source in Abu al-Hassan town in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The war remnant detonated while one of the children was playing with it. The children were then transferred to Hajin Hospital in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate for treatment. The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that war remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on cluster munitions and other war remnants, calling for securing equipment to help local residents to safely dispose of the various explosive remnants.
