On May 8, 2024, a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) artillery detachment fired multiple shells at Ard al-Amal ‘Land of Hope’ village, which is designated for internally displaced persons (IDPs), in Jabal al-Khaldiya near Mreimin village in the rural areas of Afrin city in northwestern Aleppo governorate. A pregnant woman was critically injured in the attack, which also partially destroyed an IDPs temporary housing unit. The area is under the control of Syrian National Army (SNA).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that through the act of killing, the SDF has again violated UN Security Council resolutions 2139 and 2254, which prohibit indiscriminate attacks.
The SDF has also violated the rules of international humanitarian law on distinguishing between civilians and fighters, which only aims to spread panic among civilians.
