Jasim Mohammad al-Hamad, head of the local council of M’aizela town in northern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate, from Hatla village in northern Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was shot dead on April 24, 2024, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify from a passing motorbike near the local council of al-Azba town in northern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. A member of the local council of al-Azba town, identified as Shubat al-Yassin, was also injured in the same shooting. The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We condemn all killings of civilians and call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the investigation’s findings known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
