A man, identified as Yamen Ragheb al-Awwad, was shot dead on April 15, 2024, Syrian regime forces personnel at the river crossing in Zghair Shamiya village* in western rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate while he was working on a boat ferrying civilians between the SDF-held areas and regime-held areas on opposite banks of the Euphrates River. The area where Yamen was shot is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this act of killing, Syrian regime forces have violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
