A boy, identified as 17-year-old Delshad Abbas Ayyoub Hasni from Tal al-Deif village to the east of al-Qameshli city in northeastern rural Hasaka governorate, was shot dead on March 19, 2024, by Iraqi Border Guard personnel in Iraq’s Rabia city after crossing the Syrian-Iraqi border. The area from which Delshad came is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) calls on the Iraqi authorities to investigate this crime, refer the perpetrators for trial to hold them accountable, inform the public of this incident, and compensate the victims. Practical Steps must also be taken to secure a safe passage for Syrian civilians looking for asylum via the borders from Syria to Iraq.
