A baby boy, identified as 18-month-old Ahmad Qasem al-Turki from al-Kasra town in western Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was shot dead on January 26, 2024, by stray gunfire amid clashes between Syrian regime forces and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel on the frontlines in western rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the SDF’s control.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to determine which party is responsible for Ahmad’s death. The controlling forces bear responsibility for holding the perpetrators accountable.
