A man, identified as Mahmoud al-Saleh al-Ahmad al-Ali al-Shyoukh, was shot dead on January 13, 2024, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel who were stationed in al-Hamad al-Ali School in al-Tayyana village in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. Mahmoud was shot near the Euphrates River while in his home city of al-Qouriya in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate on the other side of the River. Another civilian was injured in the shooting. The city is under the control of Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that through this killing, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
