A man, identified as Mohammad Yousef al-Masri from al-Mzayreeb town in northwestern rural Daraa governorate, was shot dead on January 8, 2024, by personnel from the Syrian regime’s Eighth Division in the midst of a shootout with an armed group we have not yet been able to identify in al-Yadoda town in northern rural Daraa governorate. A total of 14 civilians were also injured in the shootout, while many houses were damaged. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Mohammad al-Masri is a civilian who has never been involved with any military formation. Through this killing, Syrina regime forces have again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
