A 13-year-old boy, identified as Maher Sami al-Hamlou, was shot and injured on December 24, 2023, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel who directly shot him while he was driving a motorbike for refusing to stop in the market of Theyban town in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the control of the SDF.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through targeting a civilian, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
