A man, identified as Salem al-Thleij, was killed on December 20, 2023, in the crossfire in a gunfight between a group of armed men we have not yet been able to identify and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel in the market of his hometown of Theyban in eastern rural Deir Ez-Zour governorate.
The area is under the control of the SDF. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify which of the two groups was responsible for Salem’s death. The controlling forces bear responsibility to identify his killers.
