Two girls, identified as Hebba Ali Fayyad al-Dagher and Sara Mehsen al-Zayed, were killed on December 18, 2023, by the explosion of by the explosion of a live war remnant whose source we have not been able to identify while playing near a junkyard in al-Susa town in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The area is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that war remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on cluster munitions and other war remnants, calling for securing equipment to help local residents to safely dispose of the various explosive remnants.
