On December 11, 2023, an improvised explosive device (IED) placed inside a cargo vehicle exploded at the al-Shat Checkpoint operated by the Syrian National Army’s (SNA) civilian police in western Izaz city in northern rural Aleppo governorate. Two civilian police officers were injured in the explosion.

The area is under the control of the SNA. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) condemns all bombings targeting civilians. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
