A 40-year-old man, identified as Saeed Hawwa who worked as an electronics repairman, was killed on November 29, 2023, by the explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) whose source we have not yet been able to identify, that had been placed inside an electric grinder which was then brought to him in his home in western rural Damascus (‘Rif Dimashq’) governorate on the pretext of requiring repair. The IED exploded while Saeed was trying to repair the device, while his daughter, who was nearby at the time, was slightly wounded. The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses and survivors to obtain more information about the incident.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) condemns all bombings targeting civilians. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
