A man, identified as Qasim Ali al-Hassan al-Jaber, was shot dead on November 24, 2023, by a member of the Syrian regime’s National Defense militias while he was trying to cross from Darnaj town, which is under the control of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to return to his home city of al-Ashara, which is under the control of Syrian regime forces, via the Euphrates River in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate. The regime militiaman targeted him directly, leading to his death.
The area is under the control of Syrina regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that through this act of killing, regime forces have once again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
