On November 18, 2023, an improvised explosive device (IED), whose source we have not been able to identify, exploded inside a shipping vehicle at a Syrian National Army (SNA) military police checkpoint at the eastern entrance of Afrin city in northwestern rural Aleppo governorate. The explosion injured 19 individuals, including two children, with some of the wounded in a critical condition.

The area is under the control of the SNA. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) condemns all bombings targeting civilians and vital civilian facilities. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
