A seven-month pregnant woman, identified as Aisha al-Mohammad al-Hamid, was attacked and beaten by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel who beat and kicked her and used their weapons to hit her, during a raid on her husband’s family’s home in al-Sa’wa town in western rural Deir Ez-Zour on November 10, 2023, while they were trying to arrest her brother-in-law. Aisha’s unborn baby was killed in the beating, while Aisha sustained multiple wounds and fractures, and was taken to the hospital, where she remains in a critical condition. The area is under the control of the SDF.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this act of killing, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
