A man and his juvenile son, identified respectively as Mahmoud Kreidi & Ja’far Kreidi, from Ma’aret al-Nu’man city in southern rural Idlib governorate, were killed on November 7, 2023, by the explosion of a shell left by previous bombardment, whose source we have not yet been able to identify, near al-Kabbina area in northern rural Latakia governorate.

The shell exploded when Mahmoud, who made his living dismantling live explosive devices to extract and sell the active explosive agent, tried to dismantle and disarm it. The area is under the joint control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that war remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on cluster munitions and other war remnants, calling for securing equipment to help local residents safely dispose of the various explosive remnants.
