A man identified as Hussein Samir Mohammad Ali Bougha, originally from al-Najiya town in western rural Idlib governorate, was shot dead on August 28, 2023, by a Syrian regime sniper while collecting firewood in a forested area near Al-Zaitoun village in Jabal al-Turkman in northern rural Latakia governorate. The area is under the joint control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham but is also exposed to areas controlled by Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that, through this act and other similar acts of killing, Syrian regime forces have violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
